I bought something on eBay. The seller is in Manhattan. I am in Brooklyn. USPS brought it out to Long Island to sort. WHY?
HOW DOES THAT MAKE SENSE? WHY TAKE IT SO FAR AWAY? SAVE GAS, DAMN IT. SAVE SOME TIME TOO.

As much as we all hate to admit it, Brooklyn is on Long Island.

That’s weird. NY has several P&DCs. There’s one near Madison Square Garden.
All mail has to go to one of these centers to be routed, bar coded, and sorted before it can go back to your local post office.
I know they closed about half of these a few years ago, but there should still be ones closer to you.
Maybe the seller dropped it off at a post office near his work or something, and that’s why it’s be routed to Long island?

Tracker says it was accepted at a sorting facility with a zip code in Manhattan.

Well.... you technically are on Long Island. Though you’re not, ahem,
one of them.
Though my NY part of the family came from Long Island...

I know the feels. It’s rough.

(looks at map again)
I think the Brooklyn and the Staten Island centers were merged. I bet the sender’s package went from his P&DC to scoobs center, which is probably now in Long Island.

At least it’s not Staten Island... *shutters*

Of all of the centers to merge, that seems the most daft. The only connection is via the Verrazzano. That being said, I think SI should be merged with jersey.

I would like to introduce you to how distribution systems work.
Aside, New York sucks. You should move.

I know, it was hard to even type it.

Why weren’t you able to go pick it up directly from the seller?

Yes but Long Island isn’t ‘NYC’

How far into Long Island did it take it?

I never bought anything on eBay before. There was no option to?

Nassau County... Lol

Oh come on! It’s not like it went all the way to Montauk or anything! I guess Queens kinda gets in the way too lol

Either way, I don’t get why they did this. If I bought something from Texas would they take it to California?

could be like here.
i’m in Ballarat , if i send a letter to someone across town here , it has to travel 100km west to a Melbourne sorting centre before coming back to Ballarat.
gotta love Australia Post! (no wonder the fuckers are losing money)

Why not meet the seller in person?
